Sunday 18th March 2012

I'm not a big endorser of Mothers Day... its too commercialised and why should this be the only day of the year we let our mums feel special (actually I just never know what to get my mum ;) ). However, i don't ignore it... instead I put a little bit of effort into making a very special card and I'm sure most of you would have seen today's Google Doodle...
Mother's Day

I thought it might be interesting to find out where the idea of mother's day came from in other countries:

Australia

In Australia the tradition of Mother's Day was established by a resident of Leichhardt Sydney, Mrs Janet Heyden in 1924. It all began when she went to visit a patient at the Newington State Home for Women, where she met many forgotten mothers. So, to cheer them up she asked local school children and businesses to donate and bring gifts to the women. Every year after that even more support has been raised by Mrs Heyden and since then the day has become commercialised.
did you know?... the chrysanthemum is given to mothers as the flower naturally season in Autumn (equivalent to our spring i suppose) and it ends in 'mum' the australian slang for mother (although i think its slang everywhere these days)

China

In 1997 the day was established to help poor mothers and to remind people of the poor mothers in rural areas such as Western China. In the Chinese government's official newspaper 'People's Daily' an article explained that 'despite originating in the United States, people in China accept the holiday without hesitation because it is in line with the country's traditional ethics – respect for the elderly and filial piety towards parents.' In recent years a communist party member promoted the official adoption of mothers day in memory of Meng Mu (a chinese mother from early fourth century BC who was determined to provide her son with a good home - she is seen as the ideal mother figure); they also asked to replace the western gift of Carnations with lilies - these were planted by mothers when children left home in ancient times.

The story of Meng Mu is really sweet, i recommend you read it... http://chinesestoryonline.com/component/content/article/111-meng-mu-san-qian.html

Well that was all interesting... here are a few cards i found from previous mother's days.
I believe i was 10 or 11

13 now... it says inside :S

Last Year... began to get blank cards from Paperchase and use my craft box to bring them to life :D

This Year.... made yesterday and opened this morning. TAPE :P

I dont think anyone reads my posts anymore... but I'd just like to say Happy Mother's Day.

snow...

Snow is a form of precipitation (stuff falling from the sky) on the Earth's atmosphere in the form of crystalline water ice i.e. pretty snowflakes that fall from clouds (probably not white, but grey by the time it snows, but we'll never know because dunno if you've noticed but you can't seeeeeeee the clouds when it snows, it's like they disappear.). Snow is a granular material because it is composed of small ice particles (as in frozen water), with an open and soft structure; unless packed by external pressure (like for snowballs :P). snowflakes come in a variety of shapes and sizes (but not in the shape of animals, vehicles or people. They are also symmetrical :D) when a snowflake falls in the form of a ball due to melting and refreezing, it is known as a graupel, ice pellets or snowgrains (or one could identify them as happy puffs of flake ;)).

Basically, snow is frozen water falling out of the sky in pretty shapes :)

Here are some of my own snowy pictures... taken just a few minutes ago

Everyone believes that there can never be two identical snowflakes, well they're WRONG. Someone found 2 indentitwined (made up word)  snowflakes, this person would have missed out on the fun of the snow looking for two identical snowflakes :S

DID YOU KNOW: for it to snow the top of a fluffy cloud (haven't decided if it's white yet) has to be 0˚C or 32˚F... i wonder why???

You can get blind because of snow, its called Snow Blindness :O because fresh snow reflect 90% of the sun's UV radiation...

Snowfall can also act as a thermal insulator in subfreezing temperatures and provides water for crop growth.(keeping plants warm in freezing conditions and giving them water)

But we mostly associate snow with recreational use.... SNOWFIGHTS, SNOWANGELS, SNOWMEN (snowomen as the case may be), SNOWBOARDING, SNOWSHOEING :D

so people, enjoy the snow while it lasts :D

The Blue Lagoon Iceland... te he
I wanna go there :D

snow and cakes...

Hello who ever still reads my blog :P
Last night I came out of the shower after agonisingly untangling my hair without my detangler (wasnt too pleased about that)... and i saw one of the most beautiful sights ever.... it was SNOWING :D
Then this morning i happened to wake up at 3:45 (no idea why) and i see a sheet of white puffy snow covering the world outside my window : )

Later i find little footsteps running through the deep snow.

Further examination shows they are the footsteps of the eversleepy but equally adorable, Keyla : nextdoor neighbour's cat :P

I also made some yummyliscious cupcakes while repeatedly listening to 1D (they're songs are awsome :p)

As yummy as they look, i would probably only be able to eat half, theyre really big and there's LOADS of icing :S. I was experimenting with icing techniques, so i bought an icer thing with the bag and the different nozzles, dunno what its called ;)

Have a fun time in the snow... I wonder what bushy park is like, must be amazing. My riding lesson was cancelled because of the snow :( so i didn't see.

Patience, it's an art

Recently, i found the portfolio of an artist called Erik Johansson, its pretty deep stuff. Or at least i think. So i will give you the pleasure of seeing his photos and hopefully inspire you to think outside the box.

Go Your Own Road

Anlagd Översvämning : Artificial Flooding

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away

Arbeta på Havet : Working at the Sea

Lazy Dogs

Fresh Frozen Fish

Wet Dreams on Open Water

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass... it’s about learning to dance in the rain

The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.

Häng Havet på väggen : Hang the Sea on the Wall

Big Laundry Day

kk, those were kl, but this is just awsome.
Erik Johansson, created an opticall illusion somewhere in Stockholm where there appears to be a whole in the ground and one triangular tile is on the verge of falling of into the whole, he calls it...

'Mind your step'

That looks fun!
i see experimentation!

I added in a few quotes because i promised someone I'd make it inspirational, so there we go.

Baking is fun...

Hello,
Today my cousin and i decided to bake a cake, just for the fun of it. Last week, we attempted carrot cake, but it wasn't a great success because it tasted all floury and gooey and the icing wasn't too great either. So today we thought we'd keep it simple and we made a fresh cream cake, which by the way tastes YUM!
although we did learn that you should use Single Cream for the cream on the cake instead of double cream because that makes the cream to think and clumpy, but it tastes the same. Anyway, here are some pics of my fun baking time...

These are my flour domes...

or maybe i'll call them flour igloos

my mummy chopping mushrooms and my cousins mixing the batter...

 And voila....
Our cake. It has pineapple butterflies...

Strawberry fans (you can't see them very well but the
strawberrys are sliced into a pretty fan shape) ...

Well, that was that, i hope to do cooler cakes but this was a lot of fun and tastes YUM YUMMMM.
Keep following

Departure at Terminal 4

Hiya
regretfully this will be my final post for the next 5 weeks or so because thankfully the day has come when we depart from England for an exciting adventure to INDIA. I <3 INDIA. sooo yh, this is really a post to say goodbye which is kinda sad, but not really because i'm coming back :) Mary is also leaving for Taiwan today, but her title would be Departure at Terminal 3. I've also realised that i haven't really done an official end of year 9/ welcome to the holidays, what am i going to be doing/ year 10 on its way post - so this will have to be it

anywhoooo... Rachel wanted to say a few words soooo here it is... unfortuantely for Rach i couldn't just upload the recording and my computer hasn't yet mastered installing things fast, but i will surely make a video with THIS picture when i get back (to be honest she does sound a bit like an alien on the recording) :D te he

Hello World, Rachel here from Space Shuttle 0-7-9 Buh Buh Buh. What Fun.  Anyway just a quick message to say that I'm off to India. So farewell because you won't see me for 6 entire weeks and although I'm syre you will all miss me very much. Um. Try not to be to sad because i wouldn't like to think that my absence is preventing your happiness even though it probably isn't. Anyway farewell I shall miss you and.. and don't have too much fun without me xxx

so to make this post more worthwhile and less boring I will exhibit a selection of wierd and wonderful plane pictures...
HAPPY HOLS everyone. :D

Ok this picture has lots of issues:
a) where's the poor planes tail!?!?!
b)Something is wrong with the people, they're either blind and deaf OR they're stupid enough to think that plane is a CLOUD
But then i come to conclusion c) is been photoshoped (? is that how you would spell it)
still it's a pretty cool plane.

I feel sorry for this plane :(
